These terms cover your use of the Helmet Scout website, run by Tim Bonnett. By using the site you agree to them.

What the site is

Helmet Scout helps you compare motorcycle helmets using the safety ratings published by SHARP, the Department for Transport’s helmet safety scheme, and prices from UK retailers. We don’t sell anything ourselves: when you buy, you buy from the retailer, on the retailer’s terms, and your contract is with them.

Safety ratings and safety information

Star ratings, impact zone results, latch scores and helmet details come from SHARP’s published pages, shown as SHARP publishes them, with a link to the source and the date we checked it. We don’t test helmets and we don’t make safety claims of our own. SHARP’s ratings are one factor in choosing a helmet: SHARP itself says fit comes first, so try helmets on and follow SHARP’s fitting guidance and the manufacturer’s instructions. Our “Safety explained” page summarises GOV.UK and SHARP; always check the original source for the current law and guidance. Nothing on Helmet Scout is personal or professional advice. Helmet Scout isn’t connected to or endorsed by SHARP or the Department for Transport.

Prices, stock and specs

Prices and stock come from retailers’ product feeds and can change at any time, so always check the retailer’s site before you buy. Specs come from the sources shown next to them; we check them regularly, but things do change, and if a figure isn’t known we say so rather than guess. Our tools (such as the finder, compare and the quiz) sort and filter on those stated figures; they aren’t a recommendation that a helmet is right or safe for you.

How we make money

We may earn commission when you buy through our links. It never changes what we list, how we rank it or what we say. How we make money.

Using our content

You’re welcome to share links to our pages. Please don’t copy our content or data in bulk, or use automated tools to collect it, without asking first. SHARP’s own data is available from SHARP under the Open Government Licence.

Our responsibility

We work hard to keep the site accurate, but we can’t promise it’s always complete, current or available. We’re not responsible for retailers’ sites, products or service. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
