What the zone scores mean
SHARP grades each test point in six colours from “Very good” to “Poor”, set by the peak acceleration it measured (the forces passed to the head), with boundaries linked to the risk of injury found in the COST 327 crash research. We show its colours with the score from SHARP’s key, 5 (very good) to 0 (poor):
- 5 out of 5 (green)Green: Peak acceleration up to 275g (the ECE 22.05 test limit at 7.5 m/s)
- 4 out of 5 (yellow)Yellow: Up to 300g (the BS 6658:1985 limit at 7.5 m/s, which SHARP uses as the maximum for a 5-star rating)
- 3 out of 5 (orange)Orange: Up to 400g
- 2 out of 5 (brown)Brown: Up to 420g
- 1 out of 5 (red)Red: Up to 500g
- 0 out of 5 (black)Black: Over 500g
